NFPA 17A & NFPA 96 Kitchen System Inspection & Testing Frequency

NFPA requires a minimum of six-month inspections. These inspections include the verification of the following items:

  • Hazard has not changed since last inspection
  • Gauges are in operable range
  • Piping and conduit are secure and unobstructed
  • No visible signs of tampering or discharge
  • Cylinder is properly secure
  • Nozzles are sealed in place, properly arranged and aimed

  • Pull stations are properly mounted
  • Hydrostatic testing is complete per manufacturer specifications
  • Electrical shut down per NFPA 96
  • Makeup air shut down per NFPA 96
  • Operational test completed via a test link
  • Blowout test completed to ensure distribution piping is not obstructed
  • Grease measurements taken to ensure grease is being cleaned properly
  • Fuel shutoff tested and reset via gas valve
  • Links and blow off caps replaced per manufacturer specifications
  • Weigh and record cartridge weight

Periodic testing must be conducted in accordance with local codes and standards and repairs made when needed to provide proper protection and coverage.
